Trends in Training Example
Trend Description
The trend selected for discussion in this paper is e-learning and its role in training and development. E-learning is defined as a learning experience that relies on electronic devices and an internet connection (Zalat et al., 2021). This learning mode helps ensure that the education process is student-centered, delivered creatively, and enhances flexibility. E-learning helps to meet learners’ educational needs when implemented effectively.
Considerations
One of the things to consider when implementing training and development in e-learning is the audience. One has to analyze the audience when implementing e-learning to ensure that their expectations and requirements are met. Analyzing the audience is also necessary to understand the devices and resources needed to deliver e-learning. Another consideration to have when implementing this mode of learning is the costs to be incurred. This enhances understanding of the budget and time required to facilitate the process.
Advantages and Disadvantages
One of the advantages of e-learning in global training and development is that it helps to save on time and money. E-learning can allow the trainees to manage their schedule to undergo training at their most convenient time. E-learning enhances flexibility which is not the case in a face to face training. A disadvantage of e-learning in training and development is that it limits social interaction. Lack of direct contact acts as a barrier to interaction among trainees.
Intercultural Competence, Context, and Critical Dimensions
E-learning has had a significant influence on intercultural competence. Learning institutions have implemented e-projects that rely on computer-mediated communication to enhance L2 students’ intercultural competence (Liaw, 2006). Telecommunication tools have allowed students from varying cultures to enhance their intercultural competence. E-learning has influenced context by shifting learning from the classroom to an online environment that learners must be familiar with. A critical dimension impacted by e-learning is interaction since learners and tutors have minimal opportunities to communicate with each other.
