Outlander

Outlander is a historical time-travel drama TV series based on the novel “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon. The first season aired in 2014 and by the beginning of 2021, there were 5 seasons overall each one consisting of 12-16 episodes. The sixth season is expected somewhere in 2021.

The producer, Ronald D. Moore, managed to depict the spirit of 18th century Scotland very well – according to the plot, Claire Randall, a WWII nurse, got carried back in time from 1945 to 1743 Scotland and became involved in many significant events of the Scottish war for independence.

The fans wait impatiently for the next season as Outlander has many things that set it apart from other TV shows, including a unique combination of a brilliant novel and a tremendously successful TV adaptation, an explosive mix of action, and very potent chemistry between its main leads (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan), and the abundance of lush Scottish sceneries atop of beautiful soundtracks.

No Man’s Land

According to the plot, a French family grieves the death of their daughter in Egypt presumably in a suicide bombing. A brother, Antoine, however, suspects that she is alive and travels to the Middle East to find the truth. He gets involved in a Kurd’s rebel movement against radical Islamic forces or ISIS in Syria.

The movie does a great job of depicting a classical psychological phenomenon of how quickly one gets impacted by an environment – where an army, along with religion, is one of the strongest environments where peoples’ lives get reformatted and changed forever.

Antoine, an ordinary Parish construction worker, a peaceful and humble personality, becomes a killer in a matter of weeks given the necessary pressure from the nearest environment and military attributes like uniform and weapons.

The first season has been released at the end of 2020, and the second is expected closer to the end of 2021.

neXt

The topic of artificial intelligence turning against human creators has become increasingly popular in the last decades. This is one of the most plausible scenarios of an apocalypse.

The recent Fox’s Sci-Fi drama neXt is just about when things with AI may go wrong.

According to the plot, a lab-grown AI escaped its cradle and has planned to destroy humanity. A group of FBI agents and the founder of the lab are chasing the super-intelligent thing. But what can a dozen of humans, even as capable as a cybercrime FBI department, do against intelligence that needs only weeks and days to evolve into a smarter version of itself?

In a shell of a captivating thriller, neXt contains a high-end science fiction story that many would find mind-blowing and thought-provoking. The next season is expected somewhere not sooner than the end of 2021.

Vikings

Vikings is a popular historical drama TV series written by Michael Hirst and filmed for the History channel. It has had six seasons already with the final 10 episodes of the sixth season to be aired in the US and Canada in January-March 2021. The TV show is based on the sagas of the legendary Norse hero, Ragnar Lothbrok, in particular, his rise to power from a simple farmer to the feared conqueror of England and France to be later titled a king of all Scandinavia.

The first several episodes are based on the life and deeds of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) himself and his wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), while the later ones are focusing on the adventures of his several sons, both in Scandinavia and Europe.

The Vikings have been very well received by the critiques and have got millions of fans throughout the world. First aired in 2013, it has become one of the most decorated TV adaptations of the Norse sagas. Though brutal and wild in many ways, the TV show is also full of romantic moments, beautiful scenes of Scandinavian nature, and soulful soundtracks.

Raised by Wolves

Raised by Wolves is a 10-episode science fiction series, triumphing a glorious return of the decorated Alien creator, Ridley Scott. The first season aired in the fall of 2020, while the 2nd is expected to be released at the end of 2021.

It is a tale of two androids, father and mother – with a dozen human embryos they escape a destroyed Earth to head to the uninhibited, but suitable for life planet.

Ridley Scott managed to perfectly depict the new world, saturating it with creatures mostly friendly, but some dangerous (resembling the famous monster from the Alien movie series). A symbolic cherry on the cake is the reappearance of Travis Fimmel – The Vikings series hero playing Ragnar Lothbrok.

If you got hungry for good Sci-Fi in a sea of fantasies and superhero stories, look no further than Raised by Wolves!
